I was in the Eden Choir from the beginning in September 2006, Jen joined a year later, when she came to Eden on the placement from Brisbane. It's been a wonderful experience; even if you don't feel like it beforehand, having a really good sing does wonders for your general health and well-being, not to mention your self-esteem when you discover that you can actually sing in a choir without actually bringing the whole enterprise to its knees.
Sadly, on December 30, the choir played its last gig, at the Enchanted Eden Christmas festival. Vicky Abbott, our inspirational leader and arranger, has decided to take a break from all three of her choirs, to give her voice a rest and pursue other projects. She arranges all the songs herself, entirely by ear, and turns even the most humdrum of material into a thing of beauty. She's a genius at teaching one line at a time, one voice at a time, until suddenly the whole thing gels into the most amazing noise. We used to call it extreme choiring.
Jen and I were going to have to leave anyway, of course, but that doesn't make it any less sad. We're going to have to find a choir or choirs in Brisbane, obviously.
In an ideal world I'd join this lot. But the clue is in their name; not much future for Jen there. Plus they're based in the Blue Mountains, not Brisbane. But I can dream.
